The Ortonville DDA was created under State of Michigan Law to promote economic growth and community development. The boundaries of the DDA are primarily contained within the Gateway and Downtown sections of the Village. There is also a small portion of the M-15 Commercial Corridor. Click on the link to view a map of the DDA District. The DDA is comprised of an active Board of Directors, an Executive Director, and numerous committee volunteers.

Volunteer representation from a cross section of our community including: property owners, business owners, business employees, local Village residents, active community members, representatives of different age groups, representatives of community groups and people who are passionate about giving their time and support.

Options for volunteers include the following Committees:
Economic Restructuring - Creating a supportive environment for existing and new businesses, entrepreneurs and innovators in an effort to drive local economies.
Design - Supporting a community's transformation by enhancing the physical and visual assets that set the Downtown apart; making it a place for our community to gather.
Promotion - Positioning the downtown as the center of the community and hub of economic activity, while showcasing the community's unique characteristics.
Organization - Creating a strong foundation for a sustainable revitalization effort, including cultivating partnerships, community involvement, and resources for the district.

As a volunteer you have a multitude of choices, such as: Volunteers will work with the committee(s) they feel are the best fit for their passion or expertise.

Committees determine meeting times/format based on what is best for the group.
Typically Committees meet at least monthly, either in person, via telephone, or video conferencing.
Volunteers can expect to engage in DDA projects for 2-3 hours per month.
Committees are responsible for keeping minutes and submitting monthly written reports, and volunteers are required to track volunteer hours.

The primary source of funding comes through Tax-Increment Financing (TIF). This means that taxes paid within the DDA District are re-invested in the district annually. For the current budget year, the DDA has received just over $75,000 in TIF dollars.
One item to note... if we did not have a DDA those funds would not be guaranteed to come back to the Village for economic and community development.
The DDA supplements its budget with sponsorships from local businesses and community groups as well as grant funds for specific projects/initiatives.
